about ava

American Veteran Awards (AVA) is America's preeminent tribute uniting arts and entertainment with the patriotic fabric of our nation our military and their families', past, present and future.

The prestigious AVA honors provide the single-most identifiable forum of recognition for our military on land, at sea, in the air and in space. As recruitment, retention, respect and relationship between the entertainment industry and the military community ultimately reaching the public at large. Now in our ninth year, AVA is not a fundraiser but does raise:

APPRECIATION for our service members and their families.
VOLUNTEERISM at VA hospitals and military bases nationwide.
AWARENESS of the service-connected conditions diabetes, cancer and alzheimer's.

There are over 80 million veterans, active duty service members, reservists and family members and AVA is dedicated to raise awareness and assistance for those who have served, are currently serving and are unselfishly sacrificing husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters to answer our country's call to protect the precious freedoms we all enjoy.

Airing nationally on The History Channel and worldwide on American Forces Radio & Television Services (AFRTS,) AVA highlights and raises the profile of active duty military: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard and Reserves.

AVA is a project of Veterans Foundation Incorporated (VFI,) a nationally recognized non-profit, non-political, public benefit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1980 and has been instrumental in promoting the Department of Veterans Affairís outreach programs and medical delivery services to veterans since its inception.

The word Ava (Latin/Hebrew origin) means "to desire", and relative to the American Veteran Awards means "to desire to show pride in our country, our service members and their families". AVA's volunteer staff, most of whom never served in the military, strive to instill a sense of pride back into the mainstream of America and help make generations to come feel "Proud to be an American" every day.
